We’re partnering with a respected national civil litigation defense firm to identify a Law Enforcement Liability Associate for its growing Governmental Entity / Police Defense practice in California.
This is an opportunity for litigators who want real responsibility, courtroom exposure, and long‑term career growth—not a back‑office role.
Why This Role Stands Out
- Hands‑on litigation from day one (motions, depositions, discovery, trial prep)
- Meaningful work defending public entities and law enforcement agencies
- Strong mentorship and structured internal training
- Competitive compensation with upside, well above typical government pay
The Work
You’ll handle cases from inception through resolution, including:
- Law enforcement liability and civil rights defense
- Section 1983, excessive force, and related public‑entity matters
- Direct client interaction and case ownership
This is a true litigation role for attorneys who want to build trial‑ready skills.
Ideal Background
- 2–5 years of defense‑side litigation experience (flexible for the right profile)
- Experience or strong interest in public entity / police defense
- Courtroom exposure (motions, depositions, discovery)
- Strong writing and advocacy skills
- Active California Bar membership
Nice to Have (Not Required)
- Government, DOJ, City Attorney, or County Counsel experience
- Criminal defense combined with civil litigation
- Prior law enforcement or military background
This role is best suited for attorneys who are comfortable defending law enforcement and want to grow inside a stable, nationally recognized defense platform.
